Abstract


Biocompatability of pure gold, Au alloy, pure titanium, Ti alloy, Ni-Cr alloy, Co-Cr alloy and pure copper was assessed through the agar overlay test using L929 and CV1 cells.
Pure gold, pure titanium and Ti alloy had none to mild cytotoxicity, Ni-Cr, Co-Cr and gold alloy had mild to moderate cytoxicity and pure copper had severe vytotoxicity. Generally, L929 cells were more sensitive to toxic substances than CV1
cells.
The application of human gingival fiborblast to the agar overlay method seemed not to be proper.
